Kinja'd!!!

I got my copy of Gran Turismo 6 today (the Anniversary Edition of course). Here are a few things that I expected to be better.

I'm going to keep this as neutral as possible, because you don't give a damn about my personal preferences. So here are a few general issues.

Issues

Sound. At the moment, it is absolutely horrible. The sound of the Pagani Huayra is the old sound from the 430 Scuderia, plus turbo boost. The sound on most cars is actually pretty awful, worse than I expected. The SLS GT3 is also a prime example of poor sound. The tire squealing is way too loud. I mean it. Turning down the Race Effects sound won't help, that kills the engine noise. PD have confirmed they were redoing the sound but it wouldn't be ready for launch. Give it a few months and we might have something.

Modern vehicles. The current selection of modern vehicles is poor to say the least. For instance, the "new" Ferrari's for GT6 are 365GTB Daytona, 246 Dino, 250 GT Berlinetta, and the FXX if I remember correctly. No 458 Speciale, no F12 etc.. The same with BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Lamborghini etc. There are no new models (as in newly produced cars). Forza has wipped PD's ass in this department. There are fun additions such as the KTM X-bow, but why aren't there more Caterham's, Ariel Atom's, Radical's, Lotus'? Heck, why aren't there more "normal" cars?

No fuel consumption or tire wear in career races.

Still stupid class matching for arcade races. I tried to do a race in the SLS GT3, and I wasn't mathed with a single other GT3 car, although the GT3 spectrum of cars has it's own tag and category.

You can't mute the sound of annoying idiots screaming through their mic's online.

It's still a clumsly menu setup. You have to do a lot of unnecessary button pressing.

Here's an example: In license tests, you have to first select a test from the license tests menu, then confirm it, then go to the track, then setup your driver aids (they don't save your preferences on license tests), then press ok to load the track, then wait for it to load and do the intro over your car, then do the license test. Once you've done it you have to exit the timing screen, exit the replay, then go back to the main menu for that specific license test, then exit that, then return to the main menu for all the license tests and repeat the process for your next step. We live in 2013, you could simplify this process so much.

A lot of dull events with extremly slow and lifeless crap cars. "Purchase the Honda FIT 3,5 hp edition from the dealership! Then do ten races in it!" (Luckily I had the cars from the Anniversary Package so I started off by detuning a GT86 to around 85% power and doing all the novice events in that)

Cars are inconsistently priced. Does not make a whole lot of sense.

Graphics, there are issues with the fps, and screen tearing and flicker, even though I've set the graphics settings to reduce flicker. (I use a Sony top of the line 3dtv, and Sony HDMI cable). This goes to show, it might have been a better idea to wait for the PS4. Screw Driveclub. The people who purchase and extensively play Gran Turismo aren't going to by a rebaged version of NFS.

Other than that, the game is pretty good. The improvent in physics and handling are impressive. And finally the difference in tire selection is noticeable. You even notice the the change in damping and spring rates when altering from for example Racing Soft to Racing Hard change a lot because of the tire compound (less springrate in the tire). The Nürburgring is a whole new experience.

There even a guy waving a checkered flag at the finishline in the end of races. Still no marshall flags though.

Every time, every car seconds before the race sounds like a diesel if you dont slam the accelerator.

And yes, whats with the tire wear, anyone knows? I barely once got a front left tire to heat up a bit under excessive FWD understeer.

You can turn on tire wear and fuel consumption in every other aspect of the game except anything that has to do with the career part of it.

Yes, the sound at the moment is horrible. There are a few cars I won't drive again until the sound is fixed, because the sound is either A: ripped straight from a GT5 car, or B: the same as in another car with a completely different engine.

I hope they fix that. After a few hours of gameplay all i can say is meh.
And i'm a true GT fan since i played every one of them so far. GT5 was okay, something new yet not really that great. GT6 is still lacking.

Oh and compared to GT2, earning money is way too easy. I already have around 80k after a few races.

There are a few questionable choices that were made for GT6. Why they forgot to let you go from event to event directly like in license tests of the past who knows.

I also miss the used car dealerships. Being forced into that fit just about killed me. I don't like FWD, they don't make sense in my mind. Honda chief among them. So when I saw I started with 30k i was almost excited. Still thinking in GT5's world I thought to myself "I could buy myself an RX7 easy peasy" And then No.

Speaking of old cars, i'm a little dissapointed in their choices to upgrade some models. Obvious favorites and easy ones to model in preference for some odd choices like the Mitsubishi FTO.

And then to start it off they put you in 6 car races.

That all being said, I've not had the graphic problems that some people have noted, I'm not too bothered starting with lower cars and building up, though I don't like being forced by regulations like 450 pp for the first races.

I'll enjoy the game, but, they better make good on their promises. Updates already mentioned, dlc, and ultimately the next gen GT had better be flawless in visuals and audio as well as wide in it's breadth.

I agree with you. I'm in no sense blown away by GT6. I feel like I've paid a lot of money for what could (should?) have been an update for GT5. It does not feel like a new game, because the core content is so unchanged. They have improved details, but that's it.

I don't agree about the money. I have over 1M Cr because I bought the AP version. When you have so many boring events you have to motivate players.

Agreed. GT6 feels more like a GT5 1.5 than a new game. DLC's are coming but with the new business console games are adapting these days, it's probably going to cost a fortune.

I never had to use the Fit, never will I either. They actually spend resources on modelling the interior of that car instead of focusing on upgrading a classic S car or an entirerly new car... Just blows my mind that they can make that kind of decisions.

Is there any indication that GT6 for PS4 will be that much better? I mean this from a sound and car selection standpoint. These are my two main beefs with GT6 as its hardly a step up from the mediocre parts of GT5. I just don't know what to do for next gen racing. I am absolutely not going to buy an Xbox One despite the fact that I think I would like the new Forza. Should I just buy a sick PC instead? Then what will I play? Halp pls

Well, I didn't have to use it either, but just the fact they forced you to buy it was a little aggrivating. I only ended up using it so that I didnt have to mess with settings before getting in a car I actually wanted to buy.

Though I was sad to find out that my 2nd favorite car in the world is still a standard that had gone untouched. And even more so that they had left the poor alto works to rot.

The one thing that I was hoping for GT6 to finally address is the sound and the exhaust. Too bad they don't have this at the moment, looks like I'll be skipping this for now. Thanks for the review!

I bought the PS3 solely for GT5 and was so disappointed by the graphics and sound. I only played it for a few weeks and gave the console away to a family member. When I heard GT6 was coming out for PS3 instead of PS4 I couldn't believe it, what a mistake. Now I am a PC master race gamer and have a pretty good rig so that might have something to do with it. The experience using my G25 wheel was so bad in comparison to the PC sims, the force feedback not just the graphics.

The sound is one of the main reasons I got bored with GT5. No point in modifying a car if youre going to make it sound like a weedwacker. I guess ill be skipping GT6.

God I hate the tire squeal.. ive never heard a real car be that bad. My mom actually told me it was driving her crazy. I also hate the srandard car thing. Id much rather go the Forza way and have fewer, but way more detailed cars. The standard look like shit.

Try it with headphones. Your mom will be happy, but you will be deafened by the tire squeal.

I haven't tried it without headphones yet. So, you mean, it's not so bad through the TV? Good to know. As it is, I can even hear my stock Clio RS's tires chirping on Mount Panorama while driving in a straight line in fourth gear . Perhaps playing around with the game's audio settings will help. I have mine set to "Living Room", since there's no "Headphones" option.

GT6 has been such a let down...I gave it a try because I gave away my old Logitech wheel (used for rFactor and GTR2) and I wanted a driving game. I completely agree with Herman. Sounds of car are horrible. I purchased the Z4 E89 GT3 racer because it's one of the best sounding race car ever:

In GT6 it sounds like the usual vacuum cleaner. Actually the car also handles horribly!

I won't mention the tyres screeching.

I'm also extremely unhappy with the game mechanics. The IA is usually very slow, but sometimes it gets unnaturally quick, like in the driving mission with the Miura against the Murcielago. At first you can catch it very easily but then it suddenly gets faster...you can actually get a gold and still arrive 2nd!

The IA is also extremely stupid or dishonest as it makes you spin without a reason more often than not.

What's up with all the races starting in last and having to catch up the 1st...never heard of qualifying? I could understand if all the races were designed to start with an "inverted grid" but it's not like that, as the IAs rarely pass each other and the slower car al always last.

The menu are SO slow, it're really tedious.

The online part seems to have been improved a bit.

I'll probably end up getting a new wheel and play something like Assetto Corsa on the PC.

Hello. I live in the UK and got GT6 as a gift......I did ask for it though. I have owned every one of the normal games i.e. not any prologues etc....and I have to say, without a doubt, that this is by far the worst of the lot. Not too fussed by the sound, but its annoying that the cars have a generic sound, would be nice by now to make then more like the real thing.

The thing that annoys me the most are the game physics and AI cars. For some reason the grass, especially in Goodwood, is far more grippier than the race track.....I have driven the Goodwood track and the grass plays no part in upsetting the car in any way.....The game is now no longer a challenge of skill it has become a case of ‘can I keep it on the grass coz if I go onto it then I must restart’. I was using the Caterham 7 Fireblade on a normal track and got onto the grass. Upon returning the rear wheel decided to spin up......Why?? Thats not quite how cars work, or race tracks for that matter. All the cars seem to do that, even the lower power cars. I am heavily considering sending the game directly to PD and getting a refund, and then getting Forza instead. I love the GT games, but this is no longer fun and has become unplayable....unless you want to drive with the traction control etc....
